Abstract
The behavior of plasmas in a magnetic cylinder without mirror is examined and plotted on the T-n diagram where T is the temperature and n is the number density. Change of external magnetic pressure and end loss are taken into consideration. Other complicated phenomena are neglected. The plasma is classified into the fluid like and the particle like plasma according to whether the ion collision time is smaller or greater than the escaping time of ions. There are notable differences between then. In case of the fluid like plasma, path of the plasma on T-n diagram is decided independent of the way of changing the external magnetic pressure and the total number of ions decreases exponentially. In case of the particle like plasma, path of the plasma on plasma on T-n diagram dependson the way of changing the external magnetic pressure the total number of ions decreases as t-1 and the velocity distribution becomes inhomogeneous. The kinetic temperature of particle like plasma intends to become higher than the initial value even when the external magnetic pressure is kept at constant value.
This phenomenon can not occur in case of fluid like plasma.
