Abstract
An introductory review on the physics of a boundary plasma is presented. As an example the nature of the boundary plasma in a tokamak is explained referring to fuel particle recycling, and the formation and structure of a scrape-off layer produced by a solid limiter or a magnetic separatrix are analysed. The characteristics on physical processes in the boundary plasma, that is, atomic processes, sheath formation etc, are reviewed.
