Abstract

English Abstract: Treatment outcomes for pediatric renal tumors in Japan have achieved survival rates comparable to those reported in Western countries through the JWiTS-1 and JWiTS-2 trials. Current priorities include improving outcomes for patients with rare histological subtypes and advancing personalized medicine to minimize late effects among survivors. Globally, two principal strategies are employed: the North American approach (COG), which emphasizes upfront surgery, and the European approach (SIOP), which prioritizes preoperative chemotherapy. Considering potential differences in the genetic background of Japanese patients relative to Western populations, the international collaborative study “UMBRELLA-J” was initiated. This observational study aims to standardize diagnostic and therapeutic protocols based on international criteria and to identify prognostic biomarkers optimized for Japanese patients.
