Design of assistive products must address several requirements : adaptation of the user’s body and abilities, reduction of body burden, usability, accessibility and safety. It is also required to incorporate these desirable features : intuitive use, support of an independent life, enlargement of possibilities, and the ability to enjoy life. Therefore, any method of user-centered design should be effected by attending to users with disabilities and the elderly during the planning and designing process of new products. The current theme of assistive products in Japan is to activate regional industry and promote the products abroad.
