This paper identifies difficulties and coping methods for persons with mobility disabilities at the time of gigantic natural disasters and what is expected to be solved in the future with special attention to how prosthetists can contribute. The social difficulties encountered by persons with mobility disabilities before moving into temporary housing can be broadly categorized into (1) loss or damage of welfare equipment, (2) loss of physical and social environments inside and outside the home, and (3) inadequate physical environments in evacuation centers (steps, Japanese-style toilets, sleeping on the floor). Since there are no standardized ways to cope with these issues, and there are no service providers who are responsible for these issues, it is necessary to accumulate specific needs and coping methods in times of disaster from diverse perspectives, without being limited by the framework of job categories.
