Abstract
Water channels play important roles in water transport in plants. To elucidate the function of rice water channels and their response to chilling, we analyzed mRNA levels of three PIPs (RWC1, RWC2, RWC3). Both RWC1 and RWC2 were expressed in leaf, stem and root of seedlings. RWC1 and RWC2 were abundant in leaf and root, respectively. The expression of RWC3 was only in root and showed a strong diurnal variation. The maximum and minimum were during early half of light and dark period, respectively. The expression of RWC2 showed a weak diurnal variation, which reached maximum at noon and minimum at the end of light period. The expression of RWC1 showed a similar pattern as that of RWC2, but it wasn't clear.
We will analyze and discuss about the effect of chilling on mRNA levels of water channels in root and reproductive organ.
