Abstract
The process of wood fiber formation includes cell elongation and secondary cell wall biosynthesis. The characters of the fiber such as cell length and cell wall quantity affect paper quality. Improving these characters would be useful for paper manufacturing industry. Although many genes are thought to be involved in wood fiber formation, little is known about the expression and how they are controlled during the process. To gather comprehensive information of the gene expression, we examined oligo microarray analysis using Arabidopsis and Eucalyptus.
We used the Arabidopsis 2 Oligo Microarray (Agilent) and custom made Eucalyptus 1 Oligo Microarray for our experiments. The Eucalyptus microarray was designed upon our own Eucalyptus EST database. We have already collected several gene expression profiles during wood fiber formation in Arabidopsis and Eucalyptus. We are currently analyzing the data to identify the genes related to the process.
