Abstract
Several immune responses in cultured rice cells were only induced by a rice incompatible strain of Acidovora avenae. Recently we also reported that the incompatible flagellin was involved in the induction of these immune responses. To clarify the mechanism of flagellin recognition in rice, several flagellin fragments were prepared. C-terminal fragment induced the immune responses in rice, whereas N-terminal fragment caused several immune responses in Arabidopsis thaliana. The data suggest that the flagellin recognition system in rice is different from that in A. thaliana. The signal transduction of flagellin recognition was then analyzed using rice cDNA microarray. 173 genes are identified as upregulated genes during the incompatible interaction and 69 genes were regulated by flagellin recognition. The data indicate that the incompatible flagellin of A. avenae is a specific PAMP in rice, but it is not the only factor capable of inducing defense responses in rice.
