Abstract
Arabidopsis mutant cad1 showed a phenotype that mimics HR-like cell death. The CAD1 gene which is likely to negatively control plant immunity has W-box cis-element in the promoter region. Since the W-box containing genes such as PR genes and NPR1 are associated with the plant immunity, expression manners of the CAD1 on salicylic acid (SA) and elicitors were examined. The BTH that acts as an analog of SA and purified chitinoligosaccharide elicitor (GlcNAc)8 were used in the experiments. The CAD1 expression was promoted in the pCAD1::GUS transgenic plants by the BTH and (GlcNAc)8 treatment. The CAD1 expression was promoted by BTH in npr1 mutant and also accelerated by (GlcNAc)8 application in both npr1 and 35SnahG plants. These results indicate that the CAD1 gene is regulated by the SA and chitinoligosaccharide elicitor, but their controls are mediated by distinct manners.
