Abstract
GAMYB is a transcription factor, which functions in GA signaling. Recently, we isolated rice gamyb mutants, which show some abnormalities in anther development and α-amylase expression in aleurone cells, and while no abnormal phenotype in vegetative growth. These abnormalities in gamyb are much different from those in other GA insensitive mutants, such as gid1 and gid2, which show severe dwarfism resulting in heading defect. Consequently, gamyb is a suitable material for studying on GA signal in developing anther. Therefore, we performed microarray using RNA from anthers of gamyb and wild-type rice to identify the genes regulated under GAMYB.
Some genes encoding hydrolytic enzymes, such as serine protease, were down-regulated in gamyb compared with WT. Putative GAMYB-binding sequences were found in their 5'-flanking regions. In contrast, some genes encoding lipid biosynthesis were up-regulated in gamyb. We will discuss the GAMYB function in anther. (supported by PROBRAIN)
