Abstract
A local rice variety (Siam Unus) was found in Kalimantan, Indonesia. As farmers in the region sometimes apply sodium chloride to improve the growth of this variety, we suggest that there might be some mechanism of salt tolerance. To make clear the mechanism, we applied proteome analysis. In the experiment, Michikogane was used as a variety of salt susceptive control, plants were grown by hydroponically with 2 or 50 mM NaCl. Samples were taken on 0, 1, 2, and 5 days after NaCl treatment and root soluble protein was separated by 2D-PAGE. About 300 spots were separated and identification of 25 spots was succeeded by using MALDI-TOF-MS. Major changes by NaCl treatment between Siam Unus and Michikogane were observed in those proteins related to glycolysis. We propose several pathways relating NaCl tolerance mechanism.
