Abstract
Plants cannot avoid the effects of environmental changes due to their inability to move. The growth of plants was inhibited by many environmental stresses such as high temperature, low temperature, drought or high light. It is well known that the stresses other than high light show strong synergistic effect when applied with light stress. For example, when chilling sensitive plants are exposed to low temperatures, the condition, which does not affect the growth in darkness, may completely damage the plants under weak light. This effect of light reveals that the interaction between chloroplasts and light is essential for understanding of environmental response of plants.
In this symposium, we first look at the mechanism of inhibition of photosynthesis caused by environmental changes. Then, we would like to discuss on many protective mechanism against such environmental changes.
