Abstract
Under salt stress, plant productivity was reduced by accumulating excess amount of salts in plant cells. Therefore, it is important for improving plant salt tolerance to prevent salts from accumulating into cells. Until now, the function of the genes encoding sodium transporter such as hkt and nhx, have been identified in Arabidopsis. Here, we report the phenotypic analysis of T-DNA knockout line for AtCCC gene which encodes a putative cation chloride cotransporter. Expression of AtCCC mRNA was induced under K starvation and transcript amount of AtCCC was restored to normal level by adding KCl. On the other hand, AtCCC expression was suppressed under high NaCl condition. Chlorophyll content was highly decreased in ccc plants under K deficient condition. Under higher KCl or NaCl condition, ccc plants grow more vigorously than WT plants, suggesting that AtCCC plays a role of K/ Na transport into cells.
