Abstract
Arabidopsis has 36 members of Dof transcription factors and a limited number of them have been analyzed and reported so far. Analysis of Dof transcription factors in other plant species suggested that the functions of Dof transcription factors in Arabidopsis is likely more various than we currently know. To gain insight into all functions of Arabidopsis Dof transcription factors, we analyzed their expression patterns with semi-quantitative RT-PCR. Expression of some Dof genes was under the control of phytohormones such as abscisic acid and auxin. Sugar treatment and accompanying osmotic stress repressed and/or induced the expression of several Dof genes. Most of Dof genes were expressed ubiquitously in all organs examined, but expression of a Dof gene was shoot-specific and another Dof gene exhibited strong expression in root. We will also report the analysis of Dof promoter-GUS fusion genes in transgenic plants.
