Abstract
A miniature tomato Micro-Tom is a model cultivar for Solanaceae genomics with the unique features, such as a small size, seed setting under fluorescent light, and a short life cycle that allows for mature fruit to be harvested within 70-90 days of sowing. We are establishing Micro-Tom mutant lines by EMS treatment and a construction of the database in silico with an aim of supplying the resources and the information for worldwide use. We have treated 13,000 seeds by EMS and will obtained more than 5,000 M2 lines. Several mutant lines with phenotypic alterations in leaf color, plant height, fruit shape and flower color have been identified. In addition, we are establishing a TILLING protocol for isolating mutant lines with mutation in desired genes, and have established a high-throughput transformation protocol for generating tag lines and functional genomics. These resources will be available for Solanaceae community in the future.
