Abstract
The Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists established a public relations committee in 2003. The committee activities includes public affairs, government relations, social governance and education. The main goal for these activities is wide and true understanding of plant sciences in society. For this purpose, we have taken many different approaches such as internet homepage "A public square for plant sciences (Min-na no Hiroba in Japanese)", publication of books on general plant sciences, and plant meetings with lectures on selected topics. Although the activities are planned by the public relations committee, they were performed under the powerful support by individual JSPP members. In this symposium, we introduce the current activities by the committee and JSPP mamebers, and discuss on future direction of the activities.
