Abstract
Photoperiods control several morphogenic responses such like flowering and tuber formation throughout plant life cycle. Flowering and tuberization are distinct reproduction strategies, both of which involve sensing of the photoperiod, generation of a signal in the leaf, transport of a signal to distant organs. Flowering tobacco scions grafted to non-induced potato stocks had been reported to promote tuberizartion of the potato, suggesting that the mobile flowering signal (florigen) and tuberization signal (tuberigen) might have common components. Recently, rice Hd3a protein was shown to be an important component of the mobile florigen signal. We are now analyzing effect of Hd3a on tuberization in rolC::Hd3a:GFP transgenic potato. We will present results on characterization of transgenic potato plants.
