Abstract
Many cyanobacterial species possess two copies of genes encoding putative transcriptional regulators having an AbrB-type DNA binding domain at their C-termini. In this study, we made the disrupted mutants of sll0359 and sll0822 encoding AbrB-type regulators in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. Both mutants showed slower growth rate and lower content of photosynthetic pigments than wild-type strain. DNA microarray analysis of sll0822 mutant revealed decreased expression of several genes involved in nitrogen uptake or photosynthesis in the mutant under normal growth condition. Northern blot analysis showed that induction of nitrogen uptake genes such as nrtA and urtA was abolished in the mutant upon nitrogen starvation. Now we are examining the amount and oligomerization state of Sll0822 in wild-type cells under various nitrogen conditions by using its specific antibody.
