Abstract
The physiological studies on mutants of genes coding the subunits of the heterotrimeric G proteins in plants have suggested that the G proteins are involved in many signaling pathways after perception of external signals, such as plant hormones, light, and elicitor. A rice mutant (d1) in the α subunit (Gα) gene showed dwarfism and set small round seeds.
In this study, we investigated the expression patterns of the Gα and Gβ subunit (Gβ) genes. First, we constructed the chimera genes which consisted of the promoters of the subunits and the β-glucronidase (GUS) as a reporter gene, namely Gα promoter::GUS and Gβ promoter::GUS, respectively. The GUS expression in transformants expressing Gα promoter::GUS was observed in young tissues, such as leaf, internodes, lemma and palea. These results indicate that the Gα functions at developing tissue, not mature tissue. The expression pattern of Gβ will also discuss in the poster presentation.
