Abstract
Genes expressed in response to acid stress in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 were identified by DNA microarrays. Among these upregulated genes, slr0967 and sll0939 were continuously increased by 12 and 20-fold until 4 hr under the acid stress. These results suggest that both gene products play important roles in acid acclimation process. Including these genes, we have constructed 13 deletion mutants and analyzed their phenotypes. In these deletion mutants, 4 mutants were found to be sensitive to acid treatment. Real-time PCR analysis of these mutants revealed that the expression of sll0939 have been significantly repressed in the slr0967 deletion mutant. Furthermore, we thought that slr0967 was required for gene _expression involved in acid stress, and we investigated effect of slr0967 deletion by DNA microarray analysis. We reported the result that we had identified newly genes upregulated
