Abstract
Outreach activities of science have various styles; lectures in symposiums or open lectures in universities and research institutes, contributing articles to popular magazines, communicating information in Internet homepages, and etc. Recently, however, there is a need to discuss ethical, legal and social implications raised as a result of the progress of science.
In this situation, the importance of two-way communication between scientists and the public is emphasized. Science Cafe is highlighted as two-way communication activities among several outreach activities.
Science Cafe is a place where people meet to discuss the latest ideas of science. This activity has some features; dialogue between scientists and the public, small-group events, and etc.
We will show the practice of our Science Cafes that were co-hosted by the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists. We will discuss the need of this type of activities for scientists to be aware of the relationship between science and society.
