Abstract
cryptic precocious-1D (crp-1D) is a dominant mutant, which dramatically enhances the precocious-flowering phenotype of 35S::FT. In wild-type background, crp-1D mutation only slightly accelerates flowering. This precocious-flowering phenotype of crp-1D mutant was strongly suppressed by ft-2 mutation. These genetic data indicate that crp-1D promotes flowering in an FT-dependent manner.
CRP encodes the Arabidopsis Med12 protein, a subunit of the transcriptional mediator complex. We examined the genetic interaction of crp-1D with MED13, encoding another subunit of the mediator complex. med13 strongly suppressed precocious-flowering phenotype of 35S::FT; crp-1D, suggesting that crp-1D mutant protein exerts its effect through modified mediator activity.
To understand the roles of CRP gene in flowering, we are analyzing morphological and molecular phenotypes of crp-1D mutant and loss-of-function mutants in detail.
