Abstract
Phosphatidate (PA) phosphatase (PAP) is an enzyme which produces diacylglycerol (DAG) by dephosphorylating phosphatidic acid (PA). PAPs play an important role in glycerolipid metabolism since DAG is a common precursor of biosynthesis for glycolipids, phospholipids and neutral lipids. We reported lipid phosphate phosphatases (LPP) which are localized to plastids in Arabidopsis (Nakamura et al. (2007) J Biol Chem). We recently identified two soluble PAPs, phosphatidate phosphohydrolase 1, phosphatidate phosphohydrolase 2(PAH1,PAH2), and isolated single and double knockout mutants. We showed that PAH1 and PAH2 are PAP responsible for the eukaryotic pathway of galactolipid synthesis and membrane lipid remodeling mediated by these two enzymes is an essential adaptation mechanism to cope with phosphate starvation. In this presentation, we will report role of soluble PAPs in storage lipid biosynthesis.
