Abstract
In a study on competence, it has been examined by focusing on a result of learning or activity, however it was thrown by some recent researchers an new idea of competence that is considered by focusing on process of learning or activities(Inagaki,1981; Kage,1995,2004; Katsumata,2005). Thereupon, no studies on competence have ever tried to examine on the field of sports. Therefore this paper is intended as an examination of competence of sports by focusing on a process of activities. It is necessary to interpret student's learning that included the situation and context to examine competence of sports as the process of the activity. Therefore about method, fifth grade student's P.E. class of movement on vaulting horse is observed based on qualitative class analysis method, and also student's impressions of the class are analyzed. As a result, these following three “expanse" are shown in student's learning. 1) The expanse of the sensory experience. 2) The expanse of the skill and the place. 3) The expanse of thought and creativity with cooperating with friends. This result may account for that those “expanse" are brought because students got competence, in other words, it is the competence of sports in process of activity.
