Abstract
Preventing and discovering incidents of child abuse at an early stage is an urgent issue in maternal and child health. At present, we (public health nurses and a certified public psychologist/clinical psychologist) are proceeding with “Positive Parenting Program”, hereinafter referred to as “Program” specifically designed for parents who are experiencing difficulties with their preschool children. We conducted a survey and examined the effectiveness of the Program by comparing the experiences of three groups consisting of 24 participants in total who took part in the Program on three different occasions. The survey results showed a significant drop in the level of depression, stress, and overreaction of parents in all groups. In order to study and effectively manage the groups, we held briefings (explaining the purpose of the program) for participants. We found a positive result in terms of the reduced level of the stress of the mothers and childrenʼs hyperactivity noticed by 17 mothers who participated in the briefing and 7 mothers who did not. It was assumed that the face-to-face briefing session gave participants a sense of security and motivated their involvement in the Program. For parents contemplating but reluctant to participate in the Program, it can be inferred that the briefing session will enhance the continued motivation of the participants.
