Symposia on Heavy Snow Cover and Air Photos

Abstract

Symposia on heavy snow cover and air photos organized by the Japan Society for Photogrammetry was held under the chairmanship of Prof. T. Maruyasu and T. Nakano in March 1963, Items discussed are as follows :
a) Aerial photography for snow survey
b) Methods of air photo-analysis of snow covered area and snow depth
c) Analysis and interpretation of successive phenomena such as snow avalanche, land slide and flood due to snow melting etc.
The discussion proofed the excellency of aerial photographs for snow survey and as the further problems the followings are pointed out.
a) Detail analysis of snow cover by means of photo-interpretation and photogrammetry
b) Hydrological analysis of snow cover on aerial photographs
c) Examination of usability of oblique aerial photographs snow survey
Furthermore, aerial photography was carried out by the Defence Army of Japan and analysis and mapping covering Co. 30, 000 km² has already been done by the Geographical Survey Institute and Kokusai Aero Survey Co.. The resulto of such photography and analysis have been distributed for reconstrnction works.
