Abstract
This paper describes a new criterion termed as “equivocation quantity”. The equivocation quantity is defined as being the ration of mutual information and a priori entropy, and is applyed to the classification performance obtained by an automated remote sensing data processing system.
The characteristics of the equivocation quantity are analysed in terms of mathematical models. Several problems which encounter in this criterion regarding to proctical applications are also described.
