Abstract
An estimation procedure of path-radiances over the visible region from the upwelling radiance at 670 nm is discussed, using the vertical profiles of the upwelling radiance from the sea surface up to an altitude of 5000 feet. Data were acquired by extensive sea-truth experiments carried out in winter (December 1979-January 1980) in Tokyo Bay.
In our model attenuators in the atmosphere are assumed to be only dry air molecules and aerosol particles and only scatterers. No effects due to any absorbers are taken into account.
The parameter relating aerosol path-radiances to its content was determined from the sea-truth data. Then predicted upwelling radiances at an altitude of 5000 feet were compared with the observed ones and good agree-ments were realized almost over the visible region.
