Abstract
Exact determination of image coordinates of ground control points is very important for the geometric correction of satellite image data.
A new method to determine the image coordinates of ground control points more accurately than an usual method is proposed in this paper. This method is an application of template matching method where real Landsat images are compared with computer simulated images representing land use of the exact area.
Firstly, this method is clarified to be useful through computer simulation.
Then, this method is applied to an actual image data of Landsat-5 TM. Comparing the RMSE (root mean sqaare error) around eight ground control points by an usual method with those by a new method, the RMSE decreased from 9.6m obtained by an usual method to 3.8m obtained by a new method.
