Abstract
Communication is one of the environmental factors by which employees can continue working with satisfaction at hospitals. Practical communication theory defines the ability to make good use of emotions as the ability to smooth the interpersonal relations in an organization and deepen mutual understanding by comprehending each other and making suitable adjustment. A nursing manager who is responsible for organizing and coordinating people considers that this ability is essential. However, the nursing managers who were the objects of this study did not have much of this ability and, with their mutual relationship being alienated, they could not establish a collaborative system, thus resulting in the low motivation of the nursing staff, the stagnation of the whole organization and the high turnover rate of the nursing staff. Thereupon, we conducted a training (SHIEN workshop) for the improvement of emotional utilization ability of nursing managers. As a result, the nursing managers' utilization ability of emotions was improved and their mutual help action was promoted. Also, the nursing staff's satisfaction and retention rate were improved, and their management participation was realized. Improvement of 'the managing ability of a nursing manager' means the improvement of the essential parts of an organization, demonstrating that the result of collaboration leads to self-growth and organizational revitalization.
