Smoking cessation for patients with home oxygen therapy

Abstract

Twenty one years are received this year after home oxygen therapy (HOT) becomes an insurance adjustment in 1985. It is estimated at about 100,000 people, and the number of patients who are doing HOT in our country keeps increasing every year now.

Teaching to the patient and the family is indispensable to introduce HOT. It is a meaning of ①HOT in an educational item when HOT is introduced. ②Handling of equipment. ③Oxygen inhalation flowing quantity and inhalation time. ④Handling of fire. ⑤There are a report method in case of emergency etc. It is strict prohibition because it not only connects with exacerbation of an original disease but also there is danger of the fire accident that the HOT patient smokes. The introduction of HOT might have to be put off in the patient who cannot defend stopping smoking. The not smoking guidance is very important in the patient education.

Fourty percent or more of the HOT patient is a smoker in the investigation of the Johns Hopkins university in the United States of 1999, and it is reported that it was hospitalized because of the burn by smoking twenty of HOT patients\' 1990-1997 year in the this university study hospital inhaling oxygen in staying.

The report of a fire by smoking of the patient who is doing HOT is seen here and there in our country.

In the prevention of the fire accident because of the HOT patient\'s smoking, the patient education when introducing it is important. In this lecture, it introduces the point the result of inflammable experiment of the oxygen used in the patient education and to use it safely.
