Abstract

In the RC slabs replacement of viaducts, the reinforcement of steel girders is necessary. The reinforcement of the bending load bearing capacity of the steel girder with the carbon fiber sheet is considered. We carried out four points of bending tests for the specimens which assumed parameters such as types of steel, width-thickness ratio of web, width and thickness ratio of compression flange, with or without horizontal stiffeners, and with or without reinforcement by CFRP sheets. This study revealed the improvement of load-carrying capacity of a steel girder under bending by the application of proposed reinforcement. Carbon fiber sheets were not peeled off from the steel girder until reaching its maximum load.
