Abstract

Fatigue strength category for transverse butt welded joints with full penetration welds from both sides is specified as D by the JSSC Fatigue Design Recommendations on the basis of a lot of fatigue test data. However, the fatigue test data do not exist so much as for transverse but welded joints with full penetration welds from one side. In this study, for the purpose of obtaining the fatigue strength of the one side welded joints, fatigue tests and stress analyses under axial forces and plate bending are carried out on four kinds of specimens welded by different welding methods.
