A lot of fatigue cracks have been reported to be developed in orthotropic steel deck (OSD) because OSD structures support wheel loads directly. Most of them are developed at the intersection between longitudinal ribs and transverse ribs. Large-sized trough ribs were used in the cases of aiming to increase the economic efficiency of fabrication by reducing the number of members, the number of pieces, and the length of welding. The purpose of this study is to propose the new OSD scallop details in transverse ribs with large-sized trough ribs through finite element analyses and to confirm its fatigue durability through fatigue tests. As a result, no fatigue cracks were detected in the proposed OSD scallop structure.
