To facilitate rapid deck replacement, a structure has been proposed where part of the old concrete deck is left on the existing girder, and the new steel deck is attached to the web of the existing girder. To compute the composite action of the deck with the girder in this structure, it is essential to clarify the structural performance of the connecting members. This study proposed two types of connection shapes and investigated their performance using loading tests and finite element analysis. The results clarified the deformation behavior and ultimate state of both types, which could be explained with a simple model. Additionally, it was found that numerical analysis could accurately reproduce the member deformation within the load range up to the onset of yielding.
