Abstract

This paper presents a numerical analysis study on the effect of lateral bracings near the center of a beam subjected to vertical load and cyclic antisymmetric moment. A beam subjected to vertical loading and antisymmetric moment is sensitive to lateral buckling, so it is shown that bending springs are essential in addition to axial springs. When the lateral bracing is reduced, the maximum strength and last strength of the beam are reduced. However, if the lateral buckling strength of all bracing sections is greater than the full plastic moment, the strength and plastic deformation capacity are maintained.
