Abstract

There is no established design criteria for patch plate repair with high strength bolts for steel girder ends with corrosion, and repairs are typically implemented to ensure the as-built cross section. However, in many cases, placement of patch plates and bolts is difficult due to corrosion conditions and structural details. In this study, several simple patch plate repairs are proposed, and evaluated by loading tests. Test result shows the effectiveness of patch plate repair with metal touch between patch plates and bottom flanges, and with various types of plate arrangements.
