Fillet welding was perfonned in constructing the steel structures which were assembled by plates and stiffeners. Out-of-plane deformation was generated by fillet welding. Validity of the preset distortion method, which had been well known as a prevention method of outof-plane deformation, was investigated. It was elucidated that out-of-plane deformation could be prevented only when the preset distortion was given as an initial deformation which was same as deformation generated by fillet welding. In fillet welding, angular distortion was larger than longitudinal bending deformation. A prevention method of angular distortion, in which the opposite side of the welding surface was heated, was proposed and the applicability was shown.
