Abstract
The stiffening truss girder of the Shimotsui-Seto Bridge, which is a suspension bridge for both highways and railways, are supported by end links at its ends. From 1993, end links began to emit large noises when heavier freight trains passed. To reduce these noises, the source of them were investigated by Acoustic Emission Method. It was found out that the stick-slip phenomenon of metal surfaces of the pivot structure at lower end of end link columns was the source of the noises. To solve this problem, liquid lubricant to prevent stick-slip phenomenon was injected to the surfaces through bored holes. The result was successful.
