Abstract

We investigated disaster management among ostomates in Prefecture M. Of the 423 individuals comprising the present study participants, only 40% of ostomates had pre pared ostomy appliances, equivalent to a 1-2 week stockpile, In addition, many ostomates had not become members of the ostomy association. As a result, patients reported anxiety about procuring ostomy appliances and how to exchange or dispose of ostomy bags. A general lack of information on disaster mariagement techniques was also evident. In conclusion, we recommend that ostomates are given essential information in a visual format and work in collaboration with the Wound Ostomy Continence nurses and administration staff in Prefecture M.
