Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to realize an automatic variable transmission for bicycle using elastic material. To clarify the performance required to the transmission of bicycle, both a field survey for measurement incline and distance of 22 slopes and an subjective experimental to make clear the comfortable pedaling load were carried out. The results are summarized as follows; 1) Almost incline of slopes were less than at an angle of 7 degree, 2) The comfortable pedaling load was about 20kgf. Finally, an automatic continuously transmission with plastic plates was proposed to satisfy above requirements.
