Abstract
The National Research Institute of Industrial Arts (NRIIA) was established in Sendai in 1928 within the jurisdiction of Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Later in 1940,the NRIIA's new home office was opened in Tokyo, and Sendai office continued to exsist as the North-East branch of the Institute. In 1952,the NRIIA changed its name to the Industrial Arts Institute (IAI). In 1967,the IAI's North-East branch in Sendai was closed, and in 1969,the IAI's home office in Tokyo was reorganised into the Industrial Products Research Institute. This Institute developed into the new organizations : the National Institute of Material Science and Chemical Research; the National Institute of Bioscience and Human Technology in Tukuba. They are still in existence.
