Abstract
This study is based on a questionnaire conducted in Korea and Japan covering high school students and their parents' generation on the sitting posture at table. In both countries, Western style of sitting on chair is well penetrated while traditional form on sitting on floor is maintained. Questions were prepared to find out subjective evaluation of physical comfortableness of eight (8) different sitting postures on chair and floor under socially different context. The result was analyzed and comparative study was made. It was found out that the physical comfortableness does not necessarily determine a sitting posture but sociai and cultural framework is influential. Also, it became clear that in the areas where sitting on floor is the tradition, it is reflected even in the posture taken on chairs.
