Abstract
There are five basic techniques in producing bamboo furniture, of which the most important one is the technique of joining one stalk with another by means of making cuts in them and bending them. This technique was applied to various types of furniture and enabled us to make a wide variety of its designs. It can be said that the techniques of producing bamboo furniture were established in the Song dynasty. From the 17th to the 19th century a lot of pieces of furniture with various designs were produced according to the orders from Westem European countries. Basic styles as the furniture for common Chinese people have been maintained since that time. In Taiwan, producing bam-boo furniture was in its heyday between the 1910's and the 1930's.
