Abstract
Today, people in Inner Mongolia continue to change their life style from the nomadic to the settled. The Mongolian permanent residents fall into two main categories; the one farming with settled residence and the other being settled down in urban areas. Both groups of people have kept the traditional religious customs of ovoo worship. The study focuses on the attributes of traditional Mongolia nomad's ovoo worship with three aspects; the general concepts, the social meaning and the associated daily-life. The study observed that both settled farming people and city dwellers have soundly maintained the ovoo worship centered life style. This finding indicates that the ovoo worship is essential for the tribal identity. Such findings may lead to a better understanding for how the people of Mongolian tribes could enhance its cultural identity to be inherited in the future.
