Abstract
Progress of Joichi Kogure's furniture drawings shows a process of establishing the third angle system and a change of sizing system from Shaku-Sunn to Centimeter. Joichi Kogure consulted “Modern Cabinet Work: Furniture and Fitments” and made furniture drawings of his own. Thus early 20th century Japanese furniture industries were strongly influenced by British and American ones. By 1924, standard furniture design and standard furniture parts existed. By that time, furniture makers could modify the standard design and make precise full-scale drawings. In early Showa period, they could provide specifications and quotations as well. Japanese furniture industries were indebted to Joichi Kogure and his colleagues.
