Abstract
Experiments using designers' letters has implemented a new impression of space and deepness, breaking people's stereotype that typography was only 2D. This attempt in typography has expanded the role of letters. 3D Typography means the results of extracting typography in the 2D space into the 3D space, which has been conducted as a part of efforts for possibility of expression. In other words, the 3D space enables the expansion of domain of expression by providing an environment which cannot be experienced in the 2D space. The present study aims to investigate and look out upon works of 3D typography, from the works of Fortunato Depero in 1927, the year when 3D typography was first attempted, to the ones of contemporary designers in terms of their manufacturing and achievement of the attempts. In addition, this study seeks for a new research about effects of typography on sense, information and emotion when it is realized from various points of view.
