Fundamental survey and study of design foundation programs at universities in Japan

Considering of the future of design foundation programs from its possibilities and problems

Abstract

We examined design foundation programs at universities in Japan, through interviews with professors who actually in charge of the programs. Under the contemporary society, designers are required the comprehensive skills, and the role of foundation programs is emphasized its importance. On the other hand, it is difficult to find the study of foundation programs itself, and there is no opportunity to share the knowledge/information about them between professors. This fundamental study also challenges to such situation.
