Abstract

There are signboard-like items with the word "extinguish" printed on iron plates placed throughout Yoita Town, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, which turned out to be used to stop water in waterways during firefighting. These boards have not been used recently, and may quietly disappear from the town.

In this paper, we surveyed the outline, current status, and future of the boards, and held a citywalk workshop in order to find an approach to communicate the existence and cultural values of the boards to the public, using a booklet "Disappearing Signboards Map Book."
