Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the factors influencing comfort-related behavior on trains, focusing on smartphone use and temporal and spatial restrictions. Survey questionnaires showed that the shorter the ride time, the more fragmentary were respondents’ contacts to information; most people take their eyes off their smartphones within 10 minutes after boarding, and when standing, people shift their attention to inside the train. Behavior also depends on destinations. Thus, comfort-related behavior in train is affected by temporal and spatial restrictions, particularly 10 minutes and destinations.
